Plan Your 2011 Conference Calendar

One of the most educational and fun things you can do as a Learning Professional is to attend a national conference. Whether you are a Learning Leader trying to keep an eye on the new trends or you are an individual contributor in your Learning Department, there is a lot to gain at these conferences.

Some of the great things to do include:

  • Attend individual sessions on emerging learning trends.
  • Network with colleagues around the country.
  • Meet the “superstars” in our industry.
  • Hear great keynote speakers.
  • Learn about a huge variety of learning vendors in a very short period of time.

There are quite a few national conferences scheduled for 2011. I’m sure I didn’t find all of them but here are a few for you to check out. If you know of more, please add a comment with the additional conference date and url.

February 2 – 4, 2011

ASTD TechKnowledge Conference & Exposition

San Jose, CA

The tagline is “Define, Design, Deliver”.  As a long-time Instructional Designer and a big fan of technology solutions, this one is very appealing to me. Here is an excerpt from their conference description:

If you call yourself an instructional designer, an e-learning developer, a trainer in the modern age of learning, a knowledge manager, OR if you are responsible for learning AND show up to work and sit at a computer, carry a mobile device, or log onto Facebook a few times a week, YOU are a learning professional with technology on the mind. Now, figure out how technology will give your learning role or program the edge at your company, with your clients, and to your own future as a learning professional.

February 7 – 9, 2011

Training 2011 Conference & Expo

San Diego, CA

The tagline for this conference is “Performance is Everything”. This conference has over 150 different sessions. I’ve always enjoyed this conference for the information sessions and the wide variety of vendors at the expo. An excerpt from their conference web site is below:

Whether you’re just starting out in the industry or are a career training veteran; whether you’re charged with delivering training in the trenches or strategizing learning for your entire organization; and whether you need face-to-face techniques or want to learn the latest technology—Training 2011 has something for you!

March 21, 2011

Adobe Learning Summit

Orlando, FL

The tagline for this conference is “Learn. Leverage. Leap.” This conference is piggy-backed with two other conferences giving you more for your travel dollars. If your team is using the Adobe Learning Suite, this is a great conference to attend. Here is an excerpt from their conference literature:

The Adobe Learning Summit 2011 is for Learning professionals who want to learn the latest from industry leaders and Adobe experts, leverage our knowledge and network to expand their own, and leap up to the next generation of e-Learning.

This one-day event is a unique opportunity to become an active participant in the community that’s shaping the future of e-Learning design and development. Join leading e-Learning designers, developers, trainers, industry experts, and Adobe product teams in a collective explosion of information, imagination, and inspiration.

March 21 – 22, 2011

The E-Learning Foundations Intensive

Orlando, FL

This conference, while at the same location as the Adobe Learning Summit, requires separate registration. An excerpt from this conference website is below:

The e-Learning Foundations Intensive is a two-day event specifically for those with corporate training expertise, but limited experience in the design, implementation, or management of a successful organizational e-Learning effort. The program is divided into four sections:

  • The Big Picture
  • The Technology
  • The Core Elements
  • New Frontiers

Presented by some of the best-known names in the e-Learning industry — along with seasoned practitioners sharing their real-life experiences — every session offers vocabulary, concepts, strategies, checklists, and resources to help ensure your success.

March 23 – 25, 2011

Learning Solutions Conference and Expo

Orlando, FL

This is the last of three co-located events. Again, separate registration is necessary. The tagline for this event is “Find the Spectrum of Solutions.”  This conference is being offered jointly by the eLearning Guild and Learning Solutions Magazine. An excerpt from the conference is below:

To overcome any organizational learning challenge, you first need to understand the full spectrum of potential solutions you have at your disposal. Learning Solutions Conference & Expo offers you the opportunity to discover the entire spectrum of solutions so you can find that special mix that will enable you to succeed in the face of your organizational challenges.

This event draws the best minds and leading thinkers in the industry, and offers you the opportunity to meet with them and share ideas, strategies, and solutions.
