Did You Miss ACE?

On August 16th – well over 300 Workplace Learning Professionals descended on the Waverly Renaissance Hotel in order to network and hear national level speakers. Nationally and locally recognized learning innovators presented talks ranging from e-learning to leadership to communication.  In addition to great speakers, attendees visited with ACE 2011 sponsoring vendors (including TrainingPros) about their cutting-edge services and products.

So who could you see at this event?

Dr. Jack Phillips and Leighanne Lankford

In the morning, pre-conference workshops were offered by two headliners: Dr. Jack Phillips and Tom Kuhlmann. Jack Phillips is the President of the ROI Institute and the researcher that first published on the topic of ROI or Level 5 evaluations. Tom Kuhlmann is the blogger of the Articulate Community with over 80,000 followers. Tom offered a talk on making your PowerPoints more engaging.

Mid-morning, learning leaders were invited to have a private lunch with Tony Bingham, the CEO of ASTD International where they talked about the issues facing learning leaders today.

Beginning at 1:00, concurrent sessions along four paths were offered to conference attendees. These were:

    • Mobile Learning
    • Power Up Your PowerPoint
    • Measuring for Success
    • Millennial Workforce
    • Graphics for Your eLearning Course
    • Virtual Presentations
    • Agile Project Management
    • Executive Presence

To close the program, another headliner – Scott Edinger – spoke about the Inspiring Leader. Immediately following the speakers there was networking, appetizers, and drinks.

Other things to do during the event:

  • Food was collected for the Atlanta Food Bank
  • A silent auction offered wonderful items at a deep discount such as software and even a signed transparency from Donald Kirkpatrick
  • Discounts on books at a bookstore
  • Door prizes

The result? Quite a bit of food was collected, funds were raised for the local scholarship fund, and membership topped 800 for the local chapter by the end of the evening.

Everyone I’ve spoken to mentioned that this was a terrific event that they hoped to see repeated next year. I hope to see more of you at ACE 2012!
